The 1895 Club concept was instigated by three Edinburgh based clubs whose centenary year coincided with each other. Enquiries were sent out to other 1895 centenary clubs throughout the country inviting their participation. After some correspondence representatives of 19 clubs attended a meeting at Handsworth golf club where some fine tuning was made and agreement reached to constitute the 1895 Club. Ipswich Golf Club later joined the group whose purpose is to foster relationships and offer reciprocal courtesy arrangements between members of participating clubs.


The arrangements agreed between the clubs are:

1. In order to take up the opportunity of a courtesy round/reduced green fee the member must first of all contact the Secretary of the Club to be visited to arrange a suitable date and time, checking also what, if any green fee is payable.
2. The original arrangements included a 75 mile separation between clubs for visits to take place.
3. Members will only be allowed one courtesy visit to any one participating club once in any year.
4. No more than four members from a participating club will be given courtesy on any one day.
5. Once the date and time is confirmed by the Host Club, the member must then obtain a handicap certificate and a letter of introduction from the Office, to furnish the Host Club on arrival.
6. All dress rules of the Host Club must be complied with. If a green fee is requested this must be paid before play. Etiquette and any Host Club rules regarding format of play must be complied with at all times.
7. It is only courtesy that the visitor contact the Host Club prior to travel to ensure that the arrangements made remain available.
